From July to August 2024, Geering Up is offering camps for students entering Grades 1 to 12 at our UBC Okanagan campus located in Kelowna! Our STEAM camps inspire and challenge youth across the Okanagan through fun, innovative, and hands-on experiments and projects. To explore what programs we’re offering this summer, see below!

Please note that each camp will feature the same curriculum each week. As such, we do not advise taking the same camp more than once throughout the summer.
Little Innovators Adventure Camp
Calling all mini scientists for a STEM adventure! In this camp, we will explore the wonderful worlds of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math through experiments, design challenges, and tons of hands-on fun. Chemistry, physics, robotics and more will fill our little innovators with excitement and set us up for a successful year in Grade 1. Sign up for this camp if you love experiments and want a bit of practice in a classroom setting before starting Grade 1.
GRADE LEVELS: Entering Grade 1
Nature Builders Adventure Camp
From the design of a birds’ nest to the strength of a beavers’ dam, Engineering is everywhere in nature! Through hands-on activities, problem solving and teamwork, our future engineers will draw inspiration from nature to create their own marvels. This camp is designed to help our little learners transition into the Grade 1 classroom. Join this camp if you love to design and build and want a bit of practice in a classroom setting before starting Grade 1.

STEAM
Full STEAM ahead! Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math is how we explore what makes the world go ‘round…with a touch of artistic expression. These camps are a great way to combine the worlds of arts and science, using design challenges, allowing you to unleash your creative side. Join this camp if you love to experiment and create.
GRADE LEVELS: Entering Grades 2-5
STEM Explorations
Lab coats, check! We will dive into the worlds of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math with experiments, challenges, projects, and more. Every day is another adventure as we discover the worlds of cells, plants, robotics and more. Join this camp if you love to explore nature and science, and discover what makes our world so wonderful.
GRADE LEVELS: Entering Grades 2-3 and 6-7
Maker
Get ready for an Engineering extravaganza! We will imagine, create, and build all kinds of projects using the wide world of engineering. Through a lens of aerospace, civil, biomedical and electrical engineering, we will discover all the amazing things engineers do. Join this camp if you love creative, hands-on activities and are ready to change the world!
GRADE LEVELS: Entering Grades 2-7
Creative Coders
Get creative with the coding crew! We will dive into the world of digital design, and play around with game development. This camp does not focus on a specific coding language but instead will introduce you to several coding platforms. All skill levels are welcome in Creative Coders. Join this camp if you love to use your imagination and bring those ideas into the digital world.
GRADE LEVELS: Entering Grades 4-7
Aerospace Engineering
During this week-long experience, participants will journey from take-off to flight to gathering extra-terrestrial data and everything in between. Unravel the secrets of satellites, explore the wonders of rockets, and use tons of imagination with exciting Engineering Design Challenges. Join this camp if you are fascinated by the wonders of flight and the wider universe.
GRADE LEVELS: Entering Grades 8-9
Biomedical Engineering
Do you want to learn how Biomedical Engineering makes the world a better place? Combining biology, anatomy, physics, tech, and more, Biomedical Engineers are creating medicines, surgical machines and devices, to design health solutions that improve the lives of people. Join this camp if you’re considering a future career in Engineering or medicine, or love learning about groundbreaking advances in science.
GRADE LEVELS: Entering Grades 8-9
Explorations in Engineering
Explorations in Engineering is your week-long glimpse at a degree in Engineering at UBCO. Explore the labs, meet professors, and test out some amazing machinery. Hear from graduate students about their amazing research and have the unique opportunity to immerse yourself on campus. With hands-on design challenges, tours and talks, Explorations will open your mind and help you answer the question “What is it like to study Engineering at UBCO?”. Join this camp if you are considering post-secondary studies in Engineering, or are amazed by the world around us.
GRADE LEVELS: Entering Grades 10-12

Please read the information below regarding our policies in place for camps this year.
Registration for each camp will close at 11:59PM on the Thursday the week before camps begin.(i.e., if the camp begins Monday, July 15th, registration for it will close on Thursday, July 11th at 11:59PM)

Camp Hours: 9:00am - 3:00 pm
Grade Level: Register for the grade that your camper will be entering in the fall of 2024.
Recess & Lunch: Participants will get outside for approximately a 30-minute recess and hour-long lunch each day*
Activities: In our camps we will have a variety of activities including engineering building challenges, coding projects, experiments, creative design projects, and more.
Before & After Care: For campers entering grades 1-7, we offer before and after care options along with our camps to try and accommodate the busy lives of parents/guardians. Before care runs each day of the camp (except for the first day) from 8:15am to 9am, and after care runs each day from 3pm to 4pm. Parents may purchase either option with their registration.
